Another year is passing by and the following are just some of the highlights of things that have transpired on this web site:
- Syndicated Feeds (RSS) - This year showed an increase in the use of syndicated feeds both in terms of corporate and personal use. I continue to promote this technology every chance I get.
- WordCamp - Traveled to WordCamp to learn more about WordPress (what is used to power this site).
- Enterprise of One - Changed my thinking from a single individual to one of a single enterprise.
- Consulting Work - Started working as a consultant.
- Switched to Mac - Switched from Windows to the MacOS platform. Still happy with the switch.
- Refresh Denver - Joined the Refresh Denver group to stay in tune with the latest in local technologies and trends.
- Aeonscope Site Updates - Continue to update the various pages on this site with detailed info on the various things I am following. This is a huge benefit for myself but hopefully it proves useful for others as well.

We are hosting a poker tournament and you are invited! Here are the details:

Bring your poker face to this Texas Hold ‘Em tourney and enjoy some homemade pizza. Some beverages will be provided but you might want to bring something tasty to sip as well. Buy in with $10, and 2nd and 3rd place are in the money with the winner taking most. Fun prizes will also be awarded to those all-in-and-all-out early, who can then take advantage of the TV for movies and/or video games — or a second-round tourney.

While listening to the MacBreak Weekly #70 podcast the other day, I learned about a new screen/video capture software called: Jing. If you have enjoyed other TechSmith tools such as SnagIt and Camtasia Studio, then you might like Jing. The big difference with Jing is that it is built around the idea of quickly sharing screen/video captures either as a file on your local disk, using TechSmith’s Screencast image/video sharing site, at Flickr, or your own FTP site. Jing is also free and works on both Windows and the Mac OS.
Since Jing was designed to be simple and fast there are a few limitations. Image files are saved in PNG format (.png) while video files are saved as Flash (.swf). Those are the only file formats supported.
Watch this video to get an overview of what Jing is all about (same video as found on the front page of the Jing web site).

While investigating a Backward Chaining tip, I decided to settle with Vienna (for the time being) as my feed reader of choice for the Mac OS. A few reasons for my decision:
- Vienna is free, fast, and lightweight.
- Subscription synchronization across multiple clients/platforms using the NewsGator is getting slow and the yearly service fee of $25 (roughly) just doesn’t seem worth it anymore.
- I found that I wasn’t using the iPhone capabilities due to the fact that “clipping” news articles didn’t work as I had hopped because my personal news bins are never recognized. This defeats the whole purpose in my opinion.
- NetNewsWire is not the same experience on the Mac OS as Feed Demon on Windows. I would prefer Feed Demon but don’t want to use Windows anymore.
Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME), intended as a way in which to identify and manage file types, falls short of achieving its intended purpose. This is because there is no centralized way in which to manage MIME types which ultimately leads to customized methods of determining MIME type. Despite this fact there are some Java libraries that can make MIME type management easier (some of which are listed on the IANA MIME Media Types page):

Tonight’s jQuery discussion was postponed since Mike Hostetler, the speaker, was at the hospital welcoming a new baby into the world. Congrats, Mike.
Instead, Matthew and Chip, kicked off a round table discussion to make good use of the time. It was a chance to meet everyone in attendance as well as forum for discussing new ideas and ways of improving the Refresh Denver experience. Some of the topics discussed were:
- Venue - The Hive, while handy, is too small for the group. We need a space sponsored by a local business that is willing to accommodate 30+ people, a projector, and WiFi.
- Location - Should the meetings be held in central Denver or to the North, South, etc? It was a mixed vote. The key is to be near an area where food and beverage are within reach for hanging out and socializing after each event. Very important, you know.
- One Point of Origin - Do we use the WordPress site, the Google Group, or a mix of both (not to mention the Upcoming and Twitter sites).
- Monthly Topics - Matthew/Chip suggested that there be a revolving topic discussion: technology, design, business. Each month would get one of the three in a repeating cycle. It should make for a well rounded experience, not to mention some mingling between business folk/entrepreneurs, designers, and developers.
One thing that I found interesting from listening and talking to others (granted there is wide range of talents and ages in attendance) is what appears to be a lack of syndicated feed usage. People either bookmark a web site or use e-mail but not a feed reader as much. Maybe my perception is skewed but there is a clear distinction between these forms of communication and a huge benefit if used wisely.
Decently priced (mid-teens), rich, and smooth for those looking for a tasty Cabernet Sauvignon. We have had it a couple of times and really enjoy it.

Description
Her third solo album is already up for several Grammy nominations. The song “1 2 3 4″ is currently a radio hit but I find “I Feel It All” and especially “Past In Present” to be my favorites. “Brandy Alexander” is amusing. Great album and great voice. Definitely something to add to your collection.

Description
I am sure I’ll get some flak for writing about this album but there are some decent songs on this album. I’m not claiming it has a lot of lasting qualities but “Rat Race”, “Scream”, “Evil Eye”, and “Body Snatcher” are catchy. “Yellin’ At The Xmas Tree” is lyrically amusing. I suggest playing the song while hanging out with the family this holiday season and watching their reactions. Anyway, it seems the old rebel still has some kick to him.

Each new release by The Shins just keeps getting better and better. This is their third album and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. I really like the opening song “Sleeping Lessons”. Also, make sure to check out “Australia” and the best song on the album: “Sea Legs”.
