Gabriela Montero

Gabriela Montero

I first heard about Gabriela Montero on 60 Minutes but you can also learn about her on NPR as well as other sites. She is a classical pianist that can turn random tunes, popular songs, etc into masterful classical improvisions.

If you are into this kind of music, you might check out her official web site or try to see her in person as it seems that her on stage performance would outshine anything you bought on record.

Feed Readers (RSS Readers)

People often ask me what my favorite feed reader is and, in my opinion, there is only one: Feed Demon (paid, Windows only) or its brother NetNewsWire (paid, Mac OS only). However, there are others worth checking out that I’ve played with or experienced by helping others:

  • Vienna - Free. Mac OS only. A fast and lightweight stand-alone application.
  • RSS Popper - Free. Windows only. Adds additional capacities to Microsoft Outlook. Tread lightly with this as does allows you to get all information in one location but based on other experiences it doesn’t work like it should. I’ve seen issues where it won’t let you edit feeds, has missing toolbar icons, etc.
  • Mozilla Thunderbird - Free. Platform independent. This is simply a great e-mail client comparable to Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, etc. However, it also has capabilities for subscribing to and managing RSS subscriptions.
  • RSS Wizz - Free. Platform independent. Adds feeds to a pop-out sidebar in Firefox that can be revealed or hidden just like your bookmarks or history sidebars.
  • Sage - Free. Platform independent. Adds feeds to a pop-out sidebar in Firefox that can be revealed or hidden just like your bookmarks or history sidebars. Based on feedback from other people, they seem to prefer this plugin over RSS Wizz.
  • Google Reader - Free. Platform independent. Mark is a big fan of this reader and if you want to get good with it, you should talk to him or check out his web page. Additionally, consider reading Seven Google Reader Tips and Tricks.

If the list above does not help get you started, then check out a more comprehensive list from About. They have lists of free readers, paid readers, and readers for MacOS users.

Description

Kate first discovered this album and got me into this group. At first I was skeptical but as I listened to the album more I grew to like it and now I can not put it down. I love the use of synths, piano, and rock guitar. My favorite songs are Starlight and Knights Of Cydonia but the entire album is great and also easy to listen to from beginning to end. This is Muse’s fifth album release. I definitely recommend buying this album!

PHP Upload Limits

In case anyone is having trouble uploading large files for posts/pages in WordPress, Drupal, or any site that use PHP you will need to edit your php.ini file as follows:

  • upload_max_filesize - The default is 2MB. Just change the value to anything you like.
  • post_max_size - The default is 8MB. This only needs to be changed if the value of the upload_max_filesize is larger than this value. For example if the upload_max_filesize is 10M then the post_max_size needs to be 10MB or larger.

Notes

  • When entering values you must specify sizes in bytes. However, you can use shorthand. See F.A.Q. #16 for more info.
  • For Ubuntu users, your php.ini file should be located here: /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini. For those users will different installs you can easily find your php.ini file by issuing this Linux command: find / -name php.ini -type f -print
  • You should not need to reboot your server after these changes have been made as they will take effect immediately. To be sure, you can issue this command to reboot your Apache HTTP Server: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart.
