New Beginnings

Sunrise

It has been a week and two days since we left the burning desert and headed for the snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains. During that time we traveled some 850 miles in a U-haul truck, unpacked and set up our new apartment, and I started my new job.

It is great being back in a city where the Rockies loom in the horizon. The tap water tastes like bottled water, the air is cleaner, and you can actually feel the wind blowing! The frequent occurrence of afternoon showers is definitely a plus too. You almost start to forget these things after being away from them for so long.

The best part is that the new job rocks.  The word that comes to mind when trying to describe it is: freedom.  Where you are free of multiple levels of bureaucracy, free to choose the development tools needed to get your job done, and free to share ideas AND watch them form into almost immediate action.  It’s actually fun going to work again.

All-in-all, I’m glad to be back in an environment I grew up in and to be working for a developer friendly company again.

…and this is only the beginning!

The LaLa Store

LaLa, if you have not heard of it, is a CD trading service where you can list CDs that you have and CDs that you want. CD trades are one for one. Each CD that you trade from your have list will result in receiving a CD from your want list. All you do is pay for shipping and handling (roughly $1 per CD) and LaLa handles the rest. Learn about how it works or read a three part article by Ars Technica for more information.

I have been enjoying this service for some time now and discovered that opened up a store in addition to the trading service. Prices seem reasonable and it sounds like you can group CDs that you want to buy together in order to save on shipping and handling costs. Check it out:

…and in my want list, I see the option to buy the CDs that I want instead of waiting for the option to trade with some other user:
